Our new beginning!

The Captain and I were married yesterday . . . now I can finally relax.  It was a beautiful and spiritual wedding ceremony at my mom's house in the presence of immediate family and long time friends who are considered family.  We wrote our own vows and my Aunt Sandra read the blessings.  My brother came well stocked with champagne and the toasts went on for a while . . . very special and touching!

The theme was tropical . . . everyone was dressed in mainly hawaiian shirts . . . the wedding cake was so cute, complete with palm trees and colorful flip flops that are refrigerator magnets.

Although I quit drinking liquor a year or so ago, when I arrived at my mom's house, I had to have a drink to calm down a bit.  My legs were shaking so badly . . . being the center of attention makes me very nervous.  Having to speak in front of a group is a form of torture.  But I made sure that the vows I wrote were short and sweet.

All in all, it was a very special day, one of the most beautiful days of my life.  It was really awesome to see those friends and family I hadn't seen in a while . . . and the most awesome is being The Captain's wife!

Sensational news and hurricanes

Bless their hearts, they can't help it . . . the news people at The Weather Channel have been salivating over  Hurricane Irene . . . they can't hide that gleam in their eyes.  It is what they are all about . . . they live for bad weather!  The Captain and I found their elation amusing the other day as I left it on the channel to monitor the storm since I was so worried it would cancel our wedding plans.

Really, this is a serious storm!  I've been through many hurricanes and tropical storms and have had to endure DAYS without power . . . if you are in the path of this storm, please be prepared.  Don't stay home if you are advised to evacuate!

Back to the Weather Channel . . . this morning Al Roker and his sidekick are reporting from the beach IN THE DARK.  I didn't catch exactly where they are reporting from, but I'm assuming somewhere on the coast of North Carolina.  Why not the Bahamas where the storm is relentless at the moment?  Perhaps it was already too dangerous to travel to that area.

On a serious note, I'm really concerned for the Bahamas and hope the residents had somewhere else to go.  My prayers have been with them . . .

All this brings back memories of Dan Rather (many many years ago) clinging to a pole as a hurricane literally swept him off his feet . . . anything for a sensational story.  I'm wondering if he ever did that again . . . can't remember!

The countdown is on for our wedding and the jitters have gotten the best of me!  In a few days I'll be a wife again :)  I'm so happy!!

Peace, love and happiness to all . . . if you are in the path of the storm, please take care!

A wedding and a hurricane lurking

Isn't that special?  Although it is still a tropical storm at the moment, the impending Hurricane Irene is lurking around the corner, waiting around for just the right time to ruin our wedding.

Prayer warriors are badly needed . . . the storm just has to go somewhere else like way off into the Atlantic Ocean or the Caribbean mountains have to tear it up to nothing!

One thing I really hate is being the center of attention . . . it makes me so nervous.  The wedding jitters have gotten to me very badly and I've been sick for the past week or so.  It gets better and then comes back.

Maybe this is a sign that we should just run off and make it legal . . . we already have the marriage license.

How to fix Congress!

I received this in an email today--I sent it on to 10 of my friends and now I am posting it here--please feel free to copy/paste this--spread the word!!

What do you think?

I am sending this email to you in hopes you will keep it going and keep it clean. I hope you all read it all the way through. You will be glad you did.

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple!

The people demanded it. That was in 1971...before computers, before e-mail, before cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land...all because of public pressure.

I'm asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise.

In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.

Congressional Reform Act of 2011

1. No Tenure / No Pension.
A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they leave office.

2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.
It may not be used for any other purpose.

3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

4. Congress will no longer vote itself a pay raise.  Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12.
The American people did not enter into these contracts with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people this will only take three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message. Maybe it is time.

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!!!!!

Money, success and fame

My latest blog posts at Peace, Love, Happiness went into my continuing "blahness" and overwhelm . . . too much to do and not enough time.  It is my continuing story . . . maybe I just need a vacation from these four walls that seem to be closing in on me lately.  As a result, my blogs have suffered with the exception of those things that I am very passionate about . . . cooking and DIY projects.

Since the news is depressing and boring me with all the political bickering and finger pointing by the politicians, I've resorted to actually using the remote control and television guides to see what is on cable television other than news, food and DIY networks.  Today I discovered Oprah's cable network and a reality show about Ryan O'Neal and his daughter Tatum that I really enjoyed watching most of the afternoon.

Reality continues to prove that money, success and fame do not bring happiness . . . quite the contrary in so many cases.  The stormy relationship of Ryan and Tatum . . . along with the rest of the family . . . have been in and out of celebrity news through the decades.  Seems like all of these stories have an underlying theme . . . drugs, alcohol and addiction.

The death of Amy Winehouse this week brings yet another story of a young talented person whose story of success and fame and finally "making it" in a tough industry was not enough . . . drugs, alcohol and addiction rears its ugly head again.  How sad!

Money, success and fame . . . what does it really get you?  Expensive stuff, traveling and addiction?  Apparently not peace, love and happiness . . . rather the path to self-destruction made easier with lots of money.

It got me to thinking that we need to hear about happy success stories . . . those who have attained all they set out to accomplish and considered successful . . . along with a happy life.  I'm thinking about doing a series about those people.  We need some positive news . . . don't you think?
