Money, success and fame

My latest blog posts at Peace, Love, Happiness went into my continuing "blahness" and overwhelm . . . too much to do and not enough time.  It is my continuing story . . . maybe I just need a vacation from these four walls that seem to be closing in on me lately.  As a result, my blogs have suffered with the exception of those things that I am very passionate about . . . cooking and DIY projects.

Since the news is depressing and boring me with all the political bickering and finger pointing by the politicians, I've resorted to actually using the remote control and television guides to see what is on cable television other than news, food and DIY networks.  Today I discovered Oprah's cable network and a reality show about Ryan O'Neal and his daughter Tatum that I really enjoyed watching most of the afternoon.

Reality continues to prove that money, success and fame do not bring happiness . . . quite the contrary in so many cases.  The stormy relationship of Ryan and Tatum . . . along with the rest of the family . . . have been in and out of celebrity news through the decades.  Seems like all of these stories have an underlying theme . . . drugs, alcohol and addiction.

The death of Amy Winehouse this week brings yet another story of a young talented person whose story of success and fame and finally "making it" in a tough industry was not enough . . . drugs, alcohol and addiction rears its ugly head again.  How sad!

Money, success and fame . . . what does it really get you?  Expensive stuff, traveling and addiction?  Apparently not peace, love and happiness . . . rather the path to self-destruction made easier with lots of money.

It got me to thinking that we need to hear about happy success stories . . . those who have attained all they set out to accomplish and considered successful . . . along with a happy life.  I'm thinking about doing a series about those people.  We need some positive news . . . don't you think?

What's Up America?

It started as compassion for an innocent little girl whose life was brutally cut short and the mystery with all its drama surrounding it.  We don't understand the behavior of  hoochie mama Casey Anthony having a good ole time as her child was "missing" . . . and we obsessively wanted her to pay for her sins.

The jury made their decision whether we, as a collective society, agree with their decision or not.  It is the American way . . . the way our judicial system works.  It is done!  She got away with whatever she did.

The media went way overboard with the coverage . . . I'm sick to death of hearing about this woman who exhibits extremely bizarre behavior.  They have made her a celebrity superstar that has gone beyond the court room and the verdict.

They can't let go of the story . . . now it is all about the speculation of "where is she?" . . . reports of Casey sightings remind me of Elvis sightings from fans in denial of his death.  The obsession with this habitual liar is making me sick.  O.M.G.  The reports of lucrative offers going out to her . . . SHE'S A LIAR . . . who cares what she has to say or what story she will spin?  Apparently the American public does or the media would not be in this frenzy.  We are a sick society.  I could not believe that strangers would actually send her their hard earned money . . . she left jail with approximately $500 worth of donations.

It's all about the money . . . but what about society's hunger for the sensationalism that is the driving force of the whole thing.  What's up with that?

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH ALREADY!!  But wait . . . stay tuned for the civil lawsuits where she will have to speak under oath . . .

Just had to vent a little . . .

After being stabbed and jabbed in the arm and hand more times than I care to remember, they finally got my blood.  My trips to the doctor are dreaded because of this.  No matter how much water I drink prior to the stabbing, my blood still doesn't want to come out.  In particular, my hand really hurts today.  Yeah, I'm such a wimp . . .

My reward for the pain was a trip to my favorite Cuban cafe where I enjoyed a root beer float . . . it somehow eased the pain, at least for a while!

We dodged the afternoon storms to enjoy some time at Busch Gardens and finally got to see the new ride, Cheetah Hunt in action.  As soon as I get the photos downloaded, I'll be writing a post for My Florida Paradise blog.  Since I have't made a video in a while, I'm going to combine two of our recent Busch Gardens trips to depict the before and after Cheetah Hunt opening.

It has been a while since I announced a new series of posts for My Florida Paradise . . . Vintage Disney World . . . but I still haven't ventured through the office to hunt and gather those old photos.  It is still in the plan!

Have an awesome weekend!

Happy 4th of July!

What's everyone up to today Bloggerville?

We are tentatively planning to head over to Busch Gardens later on and enjoy their awesome fireworks display tonight.

For now, it is a wonderful lazy day that has me thinking about what the 4th of July holiday means to me.  Ronald Reagan said it best . . .

"Let the Fourth of July always be a reminder that here in this land, for the first time, it was decided that man is born with certain God-given rights; that government is only a convenience created and managed by the people, with no powers of its own except those voluntarily granted to it by the people.
We sometimes forget that great truth, and we never should."

Although I believe the present presidential campaign is one of the most important we Americans have faced, I have become totally bored with politics in general.  The frustration lies in the same ole partisan politics that has the politicians blaming someone else for everything that is wrong.  I'm disappointed in all of them!

Back to thoughts of smoked ribs, cole slaw and fireworks . . . hope everyone has a fabulous day!

New collaborations and looking back

The Captain and I have been working on new blogs and in the process of collaborating on some our existing blogs.  We will soon have some new blogs enter the Adgitize and Entrecard system.

Babyboomer Flashback is currently featuring posts on the new TNT mini-series Falling Skies by The Captain.  Look for future back in the day posts from him . . . we often sit around and discuss old television series, music, fads/trends and games we played when we were kids . . . he brings a new perspective of a little boy growing up in the 60's to the blog!

The posts at Subtropical Gardening are focusing on our current outdoor projects . . . growing tomato and pepper plants in our carport jungle. We are in the process of researching outdoor living spaces and using the blog as an inspiration point for those spaces we have found and love . . . and would love to incorporate into our outdoor spaces.

Gina's Italian Kitchen is currently featuring new recipes found that we have not tried yet.

Since The Captain and I have been the process of merging our lives together and making so many personal changes, it has been a time of looking back at the personal growth and progress I've made.  Sometimes the only way to really get a grip of personal progress is going back to old journals, which is what I have been doing.  Future posts on Peace, Love, Happiness will feature some of those old journal entries with updates.  Those who have gone through drastic life changes will be able to relate . . . those going through life changes will hopefully be inspired that life gets better if you take one day at a time.

I still haven't gotten around to digging out those old photo albums so I can start scanning photos for my series of blog posts on Vintage Disney World . . . the way things were.  It is one of those projects that I'm really looking forward to . . . especially converting those old VHS tapes to CD!  The Captain will be setting up one of my old computers that will be dedicated to this project.  I can't wait to write those posts on my Vintage Disney memories for My Florida Paradise blog.

Lots of changes happening at all of our blogs!

Happy Happy Happy

My theme for this week has been happiness . . . guess it is because I am feeling so much happiness.  Yeah, I know, it sounds corny . . . but I don't care!

I'm still bored with food and have become very obsessive about watching the Food Network and seeking out food blogs for new recipe ideas.  As a result, my food blog has been getting lots of new posts.

While I'm on the subject of food and the Food Network . . . have you checked out The Next Food Network Star?  Although it has irritated me to no end, it is the one show that I don't want to miss.  It reminds me of a train wreck.  My thoughts on the contestants . . . I'd hate to see the ones who didn't make the final cut since there are some really weird personalities on this season's show.

The ones I really want to go home are the two that absolutely hate each other . . . they are equally annoying to me and I'd never watch a cooking show featuring them.  The evil self-proclaimed sexy middle eastern chef turned middle eastern mom and the cry baby who speaks as if she has marbles in her mouth, making it very difficult to understand what she is saying.  How in the world did cry baby make it to the final show?  Didn't they realize that the girl is very difficult to understand with no stage presence?  She always appears to have rolled out of bed seconds before the show.  Just my opinion!

It is HOT AND HUMID in Florida!  Much to my delight, the daily storms have not kicked in as they usually do in June . . .

We have already been picking tomatoes off the tomato plant and the pepper plant is loaded with baby peppers!!  I'll be posting more articles about growing tomato and pepper plants on my gardening blog, Subtropical Gardening.

You can also check out my personal website that was started as a means to organize all of my favorite links and learn web and graphic design, DonitaWorld.com, for links to meet all of your gardening needs.

If you are wondering about the bizarre name for my personal website . . . my first internet name was Donita and I thought I’d use that name forever. My website has been there since 2001 . . . too late to go changing the website name now.
